"tabi that touch the ground") are a style of footwear with a divided toe, originating in Japan. They are similar to tabi socks in both appearance and construction. Though they can be worn with traditional thonged footwear such as geta and zori, jika-tabi are mostly designed and made to be worn alone as outdoor footwear, resembling boots that reach roughly to the mid-calf. Jika-tabi are also known as 'tabi boots'.Tokkyu Ayakon Tabi The material is a twill fabric with a certain thickness. Ishizoko-ori, a fabric woven with double-stranded thread for the warp (longitudinal) yarns and thick and thin thread used alternately for the weft (transverse) yarns is used for the bottom, increasing durability. Tokkyu Ayakon Tabi are preferred by people who work indoors such as manual workers or craftspeople. They are also worn by Aikido or martial arts athletes when training. Made of a woven twill fabric, these Tabi Boots/Socks are in EXCELLENT slightly used condition! Though they were brought back by a US Serviceman, I believe they are civilian in nature (as opposed to military issue). Though used in martial arts, these were probably recovered from a factory worker. Some slight marks and wear, due to the age, but NO damage! Still retains the original manufacture label, which appears to show a production date of January 1940. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
