Description: Wilkes Barre PennsylvaniaGiant's Despair Hillclimb Race Unposted Circa 1908 This is a beautiful antique postcard of the Giant's Despair Hill Climb race in Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania. The Giant's Despair hill climb race started in 1906 and continues to today. Usually held in July the race runs about a mile up Northhampton street in Laurel Run (a suburb of Wilkes Barre). The first race in 1906 was won with a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds. The last race that I could find records of was won in about 38 seconds. Some of the legendary names to climb the hill are Roger Penske, Louis Chevrolet, Ralph Depalma, Carroll Shelby, and Oscar Kovaleski. It is in near fine unposted condition. (see photos for a better idea of the condition). A great card for any collection of Wilkes Barre memorabilia. Don't miss out, add this vintage postcard to your collection today!
