Description: Good-minus to Fair-Plus Condition for this old Geography book. Cover shows a lot of aging and wear, but antique-style metal corners will extend its life. Also, the spine cover has been replaced. Most cover edges are worn down to cardboard cover. Binding/hinges are strong/tight. No owner name, but many penciled notes on first blank end paper. Inside, two long tears (one along the spine) have been taped, and one older tape repair is found. On pages, a few dozen small, light finger oil stains are found, but no folds or owner marks. Also a few longer stains on pp 56-57 caused by something kept in the book over the years. Mild beige age-tanning to all pages, but paper remains fairly supple. Collectible. This is a fun yet shocking read, because of what was taught in schools in the mid 1800's........ Under "Races of Man": "Caucasians ... have reached the highest state of civilization.""Wherever the Caucasian nations migrated, they found dark peoples belonging to the passive races. They either drove them away ...or conquered them. " "The Abyssinians of dark-brown color have been Christians since the fourth century, but their religion consists of empty ceremonies and superstitious usages." "The Negritos inhabiting Austrealia and New Guinea are nearly black, small and weak, and have a large mouth, with a projecting upper lip and woolly hair. They are probably the most degraded of human beings."
