Description: This is a neat barn find from Surrey County, NC. I'm estimating it to be 70 or so years old. When I first found this one, it was coated in solid rust, top to bottom. It cleaned up very nicely with a little electrolysis, with the exception of two original red paint spots. It has no makers mark, so I gather it started life with a paper label. The only identifier is the stamp "33", which pertains to the weight of 3 Lb., 3 Oz. All in all, it is in fantastic shape - The poll has no mushrooming. The eye is without deformity. The bit is free of chips and dents. Also, it is clear that the original owner was an expert filer. The bit has been profiled perfectly. This one is a pure feller or bucker, but probably not a great splitter with these flat cheeks. I hung it on an Amish made 32" hickory handle with a walnut wedge. Grain is "A" grade. The eye is of the splined variety, so this is a sold build. Handle has been coated multiple times with tung oil tinted with burnt umber oil paint. This would be a great wall hanger, but I hope it gets used like it was meant to be used. Thank you for looking.
