It is well known to fans of Chinese poetry for its stone inscription of the Chinese poem "Fukyo Yahaku" written by the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji. This hanging scroll is a stone carving of the poem. The poem, read by the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji, describes a traveler who, having fallen from the capital, stays on a boat near the Fukyo across the Fuko River in the western suburbs of Suzhou and, unable to sleep because of the longing to travel, hears the sound of the bell of Kanzan Temple.
