Description: c. 1940s; C. Schmidt & Sons Brewing Co. - Philadelphia, PA Vintage reverse-painted glass beer sign housed in a wooden frame. Tiger Head Ale, as the sign states, was first brewed in 1774. Collectors are likely aware that this predates the Christian Schmidt Brewing Co. It turns out that the Schmidt brothers bought the brand from its original brewer in 1896 and, as such, are able to have that designation on their sign. The sign features the brand's tiger head logo that has been painted on the reverse side of the glass, and this glass is set against a foil backdrop, adding a dimensional effect.
