Dial is at the back right on top of the base / floor. It is the type of toggle that clicks on then turns freely like a volume knob. The light comes on and if you keep turning you hear a tinny electronic Christmas song playing. It gets louder the more you turn. This is older technology so it might not impress many today, but it still works well. The candle has a soft orange glow. The base is plastic, and that holds the 2 C sized batteries (not included). The floor is a green and white paper material. There is a label on the front of the base that says NOEL.The underside says Holiday Creations c1993. I have the matching Santa Claus also listed.
