Description: DATING TO THE 1890’S THIS PIECE WAS ACQUIRED FROM THE ORIGINAL NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND ESTATE. FASHIONED OF A BLACK FLORAL SILK CHANTILLY LACE WITH BLACK BATTENBURG LACE APPLIED DETAIL. ONE PIECE IN CONSTRUCTION. SILK CHIFFON BACKED WHITE ROSE PATTERN LACE TRIMS THE YOKE AND HIGH COLLAR WITH A SILK ORGANZA EDGING THE TOP COLLAR. COLLAR IS BONED ON THE INTERIOR EDGE. A PUFF OF SWISS DOT NET TRIMS THE FRONT WITH THE BLACK BATTENBURG LACE IN VEST STYLING AROUND THE TOP AND TRIMMING THE OUTER PUFF SLEEVE. A WIDE BAND OF BLACK LACE WOVEN WITH BLACK SILK SATIN RIBBON TRIMS THE BOTTOM CUFF. KNOT DETAIL AT THE OUTER CUFF AND VALENCIENNES LACE RUFFLES AROUND THE BOTTOM EDGE. PLEATED BLACK SILK SATIN BELTS THE WAIST AND THE SKIRTING FALLS LONG WITH THE BATTENBURG LACE INSERTED IN PINTS ON EACH SIDE THAT GRADUATE TO THE BOTTOM WITH THE ENTIRE BOTTOM HEM FULLY IN THE BLACK BATTENBURG LACE. INTERIOR IS LINED IN A WHITE SILK TAFFETA THAT IS ENCASED IN BLACK SILK CHIFFON. HOOK AND EYE CLOSURE IN THE REAR. THE INTERIOR BODICE IS FULLY BONED. CONDITION: THE EXTERIOR OF THIS GOWN IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION WITH NO BREAKS OR SIGNS OF WEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THE INTERIOR SILK TAFFETA, ALTHOUGH INTACT, HAS BREAKAGE BEGINNING THROUGHOUT.
