Description: THIS LOT CONTAINS TWO (2) "DRY PRINTING" SPECIAL HANDLING STAMPS FROM THE U.S.A., SCOTT #QE1a-QE2a, IN FINE-VERY FINE, MINT, NEVER HINGED CONDITION. Special handling stamps were in use for only a relatively short period of time. The first printing occurred in 1925, the deep green 25c value. In 1928 other values were added -- 10c, 15c, 20c and a reprinting of the 25c value -- all in yellow green. In the 1950s a so-called "dry" printing method was employed (low moisture content of the paper), and the 10c, 15c, and 20c values were reprinted during 1955 in yellow green. Printings prior to the 1955 "dry"printing were then referred to as "wet" printings. Distinguish between the "wet and dry" printings as follows: the "dry" printing needs a thicker and stiffer paper and special inks under greater pressure in order to force the paper into the recessed plates, show thicker whiter paper, a higher sheen on the surface, feels stiffer and thicker, and the designs stand out more clearly than on the "wet" printings.
