Taras himself is eventually captured by the Poles and burned alive on a commanding height while, undaunted, he urges the retreating Cossacks to escape across the Dniester River." In the 1940s, he founded the Children's Literature Workers Association, for which he edited the Ukrainian Children's Encyclopedia.
