Today Gourmet Foods -Alaskan Red King Crab Legs Jumbo 9/12 Count

Description: About this itemMOST POPULAR VARIETY. Known for its sweet flavor and tender snow-white meat with distinctive red streaks, Alaskan Red King Crab is a crowd favorite. Wild-caught and sustainably managed, our red king crab is harvested from pristine Northern Pacific and Bering Sea waters during the peak late fall/early winter season. NATURALLY LEAN & HEALTHY. Packed with protein and low in fat and calories, red king crab legs deliver all the benefits of a healthy, seafood-rich diet without compromising taste. PREMIUM FRESHNESS. Our red king crab legs are cleaned and cooked in boiling salt water shortly after catch and then ice glazed and flash frozen to lock in flavor and nutrients. We ship them to you in an insulated container with dry ice. JUMBO SIZE. Among the largest crab legs available, each 10-pound order contains 9 to 12 legs (including claws and knuckles). A single leg yields 40-50% of its total weight in meat — it means a 1-pound leg will yield as much as a 1/2 pound of delicious meat. Plan for 1.5–2 pounds of crab legs/person for an entrée and 1 pound alongside other dishes. SIMPLE, ELEGANT MEAL. Fully cooked and ready to eat. Simply thaw overnight in the refrigerator or run cold water over the legs for a quick thaw. (PRO TIP: Remove the packaging and place crab in a container to catch the protective saltwater glaze as it melts. And if you’re sensitive to salt, run cold water over the legs before eating or heating.) Enjoy cold or warm. To heat, we recommend steaming to retain moisture. Serve with melted butter, lemon wedges, or your favorite dipping sauce. ABOUT TODAY GOURMET. We are a small, family-owned business with 30+ years of experience in the food industry. Nearly all crab legs sold are only available frozen.Since crab meat starts to spoil as soon as the crab dies, crab legs are rarely sold raw. Fishing crews catch the king crab and keep them alive in specially designed wells from harvest all the way to the shore. Immediately upon arrival on shore, legs are separated from the body, cleaned and cooked in boiling salt water (this gives the leg shells their color).Cooked crabs are then rinsed in cold water to stop the cooking process, dipped in saltwater to prevent freezer burn and then flash frozen at extremely low temperatures. Flash freezing maintains freshness, preserves nutrients and reduces the risk of contamination. We source from reputable suppliers and our quality crab legs were frozen within a few hours of arriving on shore in Alaska and remain frozen all the way to your door. How To Remove Salt From Crab Legs?Excess salt is usually not a problem but is easily removed. Your crab legs were dipped in saltwater immediately prior to freezing in order to maintain natural freshness.Step 1. Remove the crab legs from their packaging and place in a colander or large pot.Step 2. Run cold water over the crab legs until they have defrosted. The running water should remove excess salt.Step 3. Crack open a leg and taste the meat to see if it is too salty or just right. If too salty, put the legs in a bowl or sink of cold water. Change the water every 10 minutes until the salt is removed.Step 4 (rare). If still too salty, open all the legs and remove the meat. Put the meat in a colander and run cold water over the meat for a few minutes. Pat dry before serving or using in a recipe.
