Description: Maker and marks: On the base of this beautiful coffee pot are the word WEDGWOOD and a number of other impressed marks. The impressed number A 59 suggests that the coffee pot was produced in August 1959 but that is not confirmed. A series of letters and numbers that may be 8B9A, the number 8 and the number 24 also appear. Design: In 1768 Josiah Wedgwood created the very fine black unglazed stoneware called Wedgwood Black Basalt. It gives a lustrous and smooth matte finish to this wonderful and classic coffee pot. The pot's interior and the inner section of the lid are glazed. Size: The coffee pot is 2 7/8 inches wide at the top, 5 3/4 inches tall without the lid and about 6 3/4 inches tall with the lid in place. It weighs 1 pound 4 ounces. Condition: Both pieces are in excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration, crazing, repairs or wear. Like most examples of black basalt, it has a few minor scuffs in the matte finish. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
