Description: Pair Staffordshire Children seated on dogs with baskets This gorgeous pair of Spaniels with children are most likely an original matched pair .Unique paint and complex modeling which depicts children seated on spaniels with baskets in mouth. Mid to late 19th Century. Measures approx. 10.5"H X 9" W. Provenance: Prominent Private New York Collection Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Book 2, p. 146, Figure 2235/2236 Condition: Nice condition, break and reglue to girl's head, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first Spaniels appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
