Description: "Drubbing with My Drubber"Humorous Autograph Postcard Signed Author: Perelman, S. J. Title: Humorous Autograph Postcard Signed Publication: Firenze (Florence), Italy: 1968 Description: Ephemera. A humorous handwritten postcard from the New Yorker writer to his friend, the film agent and studio executive, Harvey Orkin (1918-1975). The postcard image is a color photograph of a young woman in a bikini posing on a fake beach. Perelman's note reads as follows:"23 Oct '68. This little bundle threw herself across the handlebars of my velocipede on the via Tornabuoni today in Florence and refused to be dislodged. She contends she's the spitting image of Rita Cansino who made it big under some name like Greyworth or Flayworth. I gave her a vigorous drubbing with my drubber and sent her packing. Listen-if Zurich was good enough for James Joyce, it's good enough for me. But Laura says I'm crazy. Love-Sid P."The postcard is addressed to Orkin at CMA (Creative Management Associates) now known as ICM. Laura was Perelman's wife, who was the sister of the writer Nathanael West. Today, Perelman is probably best remembered for his contributions to the New Yorker magazine, but he also wrote screenplays and won an Academy Award for Around the World in 80 Days.SOURCE: Acquired from the recipient's son, who now lives in Portland. His father died when he was young and so his children have no memories of their grandfather and no connection to S. J. Perelman or The New Yorker. The son wants to move this on to someone will will appreciate it, and that's what I do for a living. Very good. One corner bent with a small piece of Japanese tissue reinforcing the image side of the postcard, thus very good.
