After a lengthy period of off-and-on recording sessions stretching from March of 1969 through November of 1970, the long-awaited album was finally released in April, 1971 to rave reviews. Some countries refused to accept it and insisted it be changed; thus, the fingers protruding from the grease can as an alternative cover. It was also the first album crediting Mick Jagger on guitar.
