Description: Normal.dotm 0 0 1 1279 7292 Lincoln Public Schools 60 14 8955 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Bloch, Robert. PSYCHO. NY: Simon & Schuster, 1959. 1st edition. With “FIRST PRINTING” printed on the copyright page, which indicates that this is the correct 1st edition, 1st printing. The book is also advertised on the title page as being an “INNER SANCTUM MYSTERY” under the imprint of Simon & Schuster. Signed by Robert Bloch on the title page. This is NOT a book club book. This is NOT an ex-library book. Buyer beware: there may have been a later printing of this book that was published in this hardcover format and there were a number of later hardcover printings of PSYCHO that were published in subsequent years. This is the real deal: the true 1st edition, 1st printing. SCROLL DOWN THIS PAGE IMMEDIATELY TO SEE THE CONDITION OF THIS BOOK AND THIS DUST JACKET. Some of the awards and award nominations that Robert Bloch has been honored with: 1959: "That Hell-Bound Train." Hugo Award winner for Best Short Story.1974: Robert Bloch is honored by being named a Forry Award winner for Lifetime Achievement, presented by the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society. 1975: Robert Bloch is honored by being named a World Fantasy Award winner for Lifetime Achievement. 1984: Robert Bloch is honored by being named a Worldcon Special Convention Award winner for Fifty Years as a Science Fiction Professional. 1985: Robert Bloch is honored by being named a First Fandom Hall of Fame Award winner for Fans Active at the Time of the First World Science Fiction Convention. 1991: Robert Bloch is honored by being named a World Horror Grandmaster for being an Outstanding Contributor to the Horror Genre. 1995: THE EARLY FEARS. Bram Stoker Award winner for Best Collection.1995: "The Scent of Vinegar." Bram Stoker Award winner for Best Novelette. Clearly Robert Bloch was (and remains) one of the best, most famous, most important, and most collectible science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers of all time. From the dust jacket: “ . . . You can’t stumble into Sam’s arms looking like this, coming out of the night with your face and clothing giving away the story of hasty flight . . . you’ll have to look as though you’re so happy you couldn’t wait . . . That’s when she saw the sign: MOTEL -- VACANCY. The sign was unlit. The motel was dark. She switched off the ignition and waited. All at once she could hear the sullen patter of the rain and sense the sigh of the wind behind it . . . And now the darkness was here, rising all around. She was alone in the dark. The money wouldn’t help her and Sam couldn’t help her, because she’d taken the wrong turn; she was on a strange road. But no help for it -- she’d made her grave and now she must lie in it . . . Why did she think that? It wasn’t grave; it was bed . . . She was still trying to puzzle it out when the big dark shadow emerged out of the other shadows and quietly opened her car door . . . WARNING: This book is not to be read at night. Especially if you are alone. Especially not at night . . . “ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Robert Bloch’s PSYCHO is, of course, the source book for the legendarily famous Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I grade books and dust jackets: fine, near fine, very good, good, fair, and poor. I describe all faults. If you sell books on EBAY (or anywhere else), it is de rigueur not to list 1st printings of book club books as 1st editions (unless they ARE the 1st edition, which occurs only occasionally); also, a 1st edition, 7th printing, is not a 1st edition. Ex-library books must be noted as such since generally they are of little value to the collector of 1st editions. Condition is also very important to those collectors. Books and dust jackets must be described in detail. In other words, it is incumbent upon the SELLER to know what is and is not a 1st edition. Mistakes can be made (and corrected), of course, but if you DON'T KNOW, don't try to sell a book as a 1st edition. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ CONDITION: A VERY GOOD to VERY GOOD+ book in an outwardly VERY GOOD dust jacket. The book is tight and square in its cream-colored quarter-cloth and black boards binding with red lettering on the spine of the book. There is no writing in the book (except for Robert Bloch’s signature on the title page); no bookplates; no remainder marks. The corners of the book are not bumped (often they are with this somewhat fragile book). There is also no spine lean to the book; often 1st edition copies of PSYCHO show up with a spine lean, but that is not the case here. The pages are tanned, as is almost always the case. The dust jacket is NOT price-clipped and shows the correct 1st issue price of $2.95. The dust jacket is outwardly fairly nice. However, at some point in time, a previous owner of this book placed the dust jacket in an archival dust jacket protector that was too small (not tall enough) for the dust jacket to fit correctly into the dust jacket protector and the dust jacket was folded all along its lower edge to fit into the dust jacket protector. The dust jacket has since been unfolded (straightened) and is now in a dust jacket protector of the correct size. The dust jacket has also undergone a fairly minor amount of archival restoration using non-acidic materials by a professional paper conservationist. There is a small amount of color touch-up, mainly at the upper and lower edges of the spine panel of the dust jacket. A note on the photos in this listing: the photos of the dust jacket were taken while the dust jacket was encased in a protective Brodart dust jacket protector. Any apparent "smudges" or darkening or discolorations or glare is due to the reflections from the dust jacket protector. I decided not to remove the dust jacket from the dust jacket protector when I took the photos. I can provide photos of the dust jacket without the dust jacket protector on the dust jacket, if necessary. I use the EBAY shipping system to send out the majority of the books that I sell. Insurance is included in the shipping charges for this book that the buyer will be paying. One would assume that the buyer would want to insure this book for its correct value. A MUST FOR THE COLLECTOR OF IMPORTANT MODERN HORROR FICTION 1st EDITIONS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF FAMOUS 1st EDITIONS THAT WERE TURNED INTO FAMOUS HOLLYWOOD FILMS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF ROBERT BLOCH 1st EDITIONS! ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Additional photos are available upon request. I am continuing to list some of my best books (especially science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions) on EBAY not so much as auctions (due to the fact that EBAY charges quite a bit to list items for reserve auctions), but more along the lines of listing my “catalogue” of books that I have for sale. I'm not going to “give” these books away, but my opening bids and Buy-It-Now prices are usually a fair amount below market value. Furthermore, however, for certain scarce books in great condition, I do expect to get close to what they're worth. Stay with me; I always have a number of important, collectible, cornerstone science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions listed. Many thanks! All items are being offered for sale elsewhere; I reserve the right to end this listing early if this item sells elsewhere. __________________________________________________________________________________ Note: I own the following two books: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY JUSTICE. Subterranean Press, 2014. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY MERCY. Subterranean Press, 2016. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I am looking for: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY SWORD. Subterranean Press, 2015. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I would like to round out this set by acquiring the #2/500 copy of ANCILLARY SWORD. If anyone has this copy and is willing to sell it on EBAY, I would be highly interested in obtaining it so that all my copies would have matching numbers. Many thanks. __________________________________________________________________________________ Contact me if you're looking for a particular title or titles. I have thousands of books for sale that may or may not show up in my EBAY listings. I am happy to set up flexible PAYMENT and/or HOLD PLANS for any book(s) that you bid on and win. Shipping: $4.00 for USPS Media Mail shipping. $10.00 for USPS Priority Mail shipping. Buyers who wish to have packages sent to addresses outside of the U.S. are required to pay for the postage necessary to send such packages. Please note: if you want something other than USPS Media Mail shipping, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice or if you are a buyer outside of the United States, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice. You must be willing to pay for non-USPS Media Mail shipping charges or for international shipping charges. I reserve the right to negate a purchase if you are unwilling to pay for the correct shipping charges either to an address in the U.S. or if international shipping is required. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. See my other auctions on EBAY for excellent science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions (and a few other items). I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions: award winners, cornerstone books, and generally recognized important books in the genre(s). I GUARANTEE THE CONDITION OF THIS BOOK; IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SEND IT BACK! I am happy to set up flexible payment and layaway plans if these options make it easier for you to participate in bidding and winning. Before you buy from others, check out their return policies and their guarantees and compare them to mine. I stand behind all of my items FULLY. Why deal with a seller who won’t guarantee their books, doesn’t have a return policy, or doesn’t correctly describe the edition or condition of their book(s)?
