I got this at an estate sale in Akron (Firestone Park) in the 1990s. It was before the Columbia exploded in 2003, killing all 7 astronauts on board. I’d always loved the romance of space travel so I snapped it up and had it in my office for decades. The first time I’ve taken this toy out of its box was when I took pictures of it last night. I doubt it’s ever been used –especially since its original plastic packing is included. This comes with the space shuttle and its box: the stickers. the flag and the blinking antenna light. As far as I know, it doesn’t have any batteries in it (AA Size). The box measures about 5 x 8 in. You can seethe box has some wear. The estate sale dealer put a price tag on the shuttle on one side of the box (WHY DO THEY DO THAT?) but the other side is perfect. I understand from my search of the internet that this is a rare toy. The toy apparently can move around the floor with a “bump ‘n go mystery action.” I don’t know if it does but the box said it does. But I can tell you that the box (with the toy inside) looks good on a book shelf – and it impressed a lot of my students, who were never allowed to touch it! This would make a GREAT holiday gift for any person who once aspired to be an astronaut, was an astronaut or plans to become an astronaut.
