THANK YOU! ***John Ramos*** Juan Elias Ramos was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and came to the United States as a child with his family to live in California. Raised in Los Angeles, he knew at a young age that drawing and art came easily and natural for him. Studying fine art painting and graphic design n the 1960" s at California State University, Long Beach, he began to develop his skills in drawing and painting, as well as architectural and industrial design. Working primarily in the area of graphic design and marketing after college, Ramos established his own business in So. California, first the Sunshine Studios, and then his own JOHN RAMOS DESIGN studio in Laguna Beach, California. Creating for the " corporate world" during the day and painting in the evenings, Ramos was selling his paintings in the summer months at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and local galleries. Then, in 1980 he used his experience and knowledge in the printing area, and decided to publish his original paintings as limited edition lithograph prints. He then began showing and selling his editions in galleries all over the United States, Mexico, and abroad while having his exhibitions at the International Art Expos of the 80' s & 90' s. In 1994, he opened his first gallery in Los Osos, California to feature his watercolor paintings and oil paintings along with his prints. A year later he moved into a larger space in downtown San Luis Obispo, California where the RAMOS GALLERY became a well known destination for people from all over who came to the Central Coast of California. Throughout Juan Ramos" life, he would express his longing for Mexico by painting the coastal towns of Baja California that he frequently visited to paint, to surf, to fine inspiration and creative energy. The year 2004 found him in Baja California looking for " his place" in Mexico. In Loreto, Ramos found the perfect town surrounded by breathtaking natural splendor for his subject matter, and the people of Loreto his inspiration. He says " living in Loreto is the feeling of being in my mother' s kitchen" . In 2005, after closing the gallery in California, Ramos used his creative energies to completely restore a historic adobe casa on the plaza of Loreto and also start painting in his new studio. It took a year and a half to finish the restoration of this 100-year-old adobe casa and another year and a half living in it that now has led to the opening of Galeria Ramos this year, 2008.
