Description: Rafal Olbinski Swan Polish American Art Etching Framed and Matted Signed 26/100 This fun and fantastic original etching, Swan, is by Polish-American artist Rafal Olbinski. The piece is hand-signed and numbered in pencil with a limited edition of 100 prints. This print is 26/100. This hard-to-find piece of art typically retails around $1,500. This particular piece of art features a swan floating on calm waters with a body and tail feathers consisting of a hand. The image is reflected in the water with a blurred outline. The New York Times once remarked, if you don't know his name, "Odds are you know his paintings." Olbinski immigrated to the United States in 1982 and has been a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York since 1985. I do not have a provenance for this piece, but it is marked on the back with "Nahan Galleries in New Orleans" with a care information sheet. The etching is framed and matted, and the backside is taped (see images). The frame is metallic silver with red underneath in a distressed pattern, and the matting is white. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. Rafal has received more than 150 awards for his outstanding work, including the gold and silver medals awarded by the Society of Illustrators of New York and Los Angeles. Olbinski's works are in numerous prestigious public collections in New York, Washington and Osaka and private collections in the United States, Japan and Europe. Between 2002 and 2010, certain Rafael Olbinski pieces were selected to be projected at the Grand Central Terminal of New York during Earth Day. The selected artists before him were Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring. His compositions have been on the covers of several magazines and have served as posters for the Metropolitan Opera of New York and La Scala of Milan. There are two to three light scuffs on the top front portion of the glass, and they are not noticeable from a distance. Scuffs, scrapes, and a few minor dings are on the frame. A few spots of the frame have the silver top coat worn off, exposing the red underlayer (see images). The metal wire hanger on the back is secure. The back of the frame is taped, and some tape has rolled up along the edges. Please carefully review the photos, as they are an extension of this description.
