First Printing, octavo size, 275 pp. This edition comes with a white dust jacket. It also includes a custom clamshell red box, quarter red leather with red cloth and boards, with gilt decorative drawings and lettering to front and spine as pictured. The book is in very good condition with bright green clean boards and straight corners with minimal rubbing. There is a vintage gift inscription on the front free end paper. Head and tail of spine are bumped, offsetting to the free end paper, small old damp stain to the bottom margin of the front pastedown, scattered foxing to the text block edges and a few pages. The dust jacket is in very good and unclipped condition. Light soiling and edge wear. Some professional restoration by a previous owner to the head and tail of spine and bottom corner of front flap of dust jacket. The dust jacket includes gilt letters, illustration and borders as pictured. The dust jacket is unclipped, but there is no price. This white dust jacket and book are the same two items pictured in “One Hundred Books Famous in Children’s Literature” (by Chris Loker, Grolier Club, 2014), adding credence to its authenticity. The custom clamshell box is in near fine condition. There is slight discoloring and a faint sticky residue to the cloth at the top edge. This book was most recently purchased from Swan’s Fine Books, from which the above descriptors were summarized. Currently owned by a private collector.
