Published by The Neff Novelty Co., Cumberland, MD., Made in U.S.A. C.T. American Art Info on back of card says: Middletown Valley. From the observatory in Braddock Heights Park over a thousand feet above sea level, on beholds a wonderful scene of this beautiful historic Valley. On a clear day a view may be had for at least fifty miles around, extending into four states, Md., Pa., Va., and W. Va. Ten miles to the west, South Mountain rears it head, remembered for the great battle of the Civil War fought here on Sept. 14, 1862, the Union forces won the battle. The Catoctin ridge runs parallel to this. Catoctin Furnace had the honor of making some of the cannon used in the Revolution. The shaft of the first steamboat built by Rumsey was made in this old furnace. The iron that went into the construction of the Monitor, was brought from the same source. To the southeast in the gap between the mountains lies Harper's Ferry redolent with Civil War memories, especially the untimely raid instigated by John Brown. Not far off are historic Frederick, Antietam, Monocacy, and Gettysburg is within earshot, for the boom of the cannon was heard resounding the hills about Braddock on that fatal day of battle. I'll place the cards inside plastic sleeves and secure to a piece of white foam board for stability. Mailing will be by USPS First Class inside a bubble envelope. I'll mail same day, or next day after PayPal payment is received. Following is some info on the card company mentioned earlier: Curt Teich Co. 1898-1978 (C.T. American Art) Chicago, ILCurt Teich was already working as a lithographer in Lobenstein, Germany when he emigrated to Chicago in 1895. He would start his own firm in 1898 concentrating on newspaper and magazine printing. While he was an early publisher of postcards, he did not begin printing them in number himself until 1908. As his competition dwindled his sales expanded, and his American factories would eventually turn out more postcards than any other in the United States. They they are best known for their wide range of advertising and view-cards of North America. By the 1920ïs they were producing so many postcards with borders that they became recognized as a type dubbed White Border Cards. Curt Teich was an early pioneer of the offset printing process having started using offset presses in 1907. It would take a number of years before he had presses made to his satisfaction, and many more years for him to perfect the method. His inovations in this printing technique directly led to the production of what we now call Linens by the early 1930’s. While they produced many cards during World War Two, they also aided the war effort by printing many military maps. Although Curt Teich eventually turned management of the firm over to his son, he remained active in company operations throughout its history. After his death in 1974 the family business was sold to Regensteiner Publishers who continued to print cards at the Chicago plant until 1978. Afterwards the rights to the company name and processes were sold to the Irish firm John Hinde Ltd. Their California subsidiary now prints cards under the name John Hinde Curteich, Inc.
