I Melt With You reached #7 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Top Tracks Chart, #60 on the US Billboard Dance/Disco Top 80 Chart and #78 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in 1983 then a 1990 rerelease peaked at #76 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart and #25 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart then has been Certified Gold in the US by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and Certified Platinum in Canada by Music Canada both based upon sales+streaming figures. It became Modern English’s most successful single, largely in the United States, where it was featured in the film Valley Girl in which it features in both the ending titles and in a "falling in love" montage sequence then on MTV channel and in 2002 the song was featured in video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
