Description: Mousterian / Middle Paleolithic Neanderthal - South-west of France350 000 to 35 000 B.C. According to the typology of the tool and the weathering of the material, this piece dates back to the end of the second half of the Mousterian period, up to Upper Paleolithic. Tool: very nice Mousterian scraper, précise knapping by late Neanderthal. The shape of the tool and the marks of use may indicate that we have here possibly a small axe, unusual tool for Neanderthal. Another hypothesis: one side shows an old patina, as if the tool was made out of a previous one. Intriguing piece!
