Description: Lycium ruthenicum is a shrub in the Solanaceae family. It is commonly known as Russian boxthorn, Black Gojiberry, black fruit wolfberry, goji nero, siyah goji, and kaokee. A native in Central Asia, the southern part of Russia, Northwest China, and Pakistan. In India, it grows in Kashmir where native people use it to cure blindness in camels. It grows to 6 feet tall and can run out to 15 feet wide if left alone. The leaves turn a bronze color in the colder months. The bees, butterflies, and birds will visit from late Spring to mid-summer while in bloom. It grows in dry soils and is a drought-tolerant shrub. Zones 5-9 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
