This is black enameled Papier Mache with wood and mother-of-pearl inlay detailed with fine hand painting. It is hinged top and bottom where it folds out to a dark red leather writing pad, underneath it has a compartment for a concealed black powder gun, a side compartment with a lid and places for a rod and ammunition. Under the top opening it has storage for nips, writing pen and comes with original ink well bottle, the bottle is sheer top, it has a metal cap but I don't think that is the original one. The desk has wide decorative feet. It is in excellent antique condition, it has some craze lines, some small corner damage and a small strip of inlay missing on one side, sturdy. It has a brass lock but no key. Overall including the feet it is 15" wide ,12 1/2" deep and 4 3/4" high, weight is 6 pounds.
