Henry Watkins was a printer in Cincinnati who helped the young Hearn find a newspaper job there. The book was printed by The Merrymount Press in Boston and published by Brentano's in 1907. This is the First Edition with brown paper-covered boards and a black spine. Lettering on the front board is gilt, as well as the lettering and design on the spine. The top edge is gilt; the other page edges are deckled. There are four full-page b/w illustrations (facsimile letters) as well as numerous smaller drawings. The book contains 201 pages and measures 7 3/4" by 5 1/8." Condition is very good to near fine with gentle wear. Inside pages are clean with no unwanted marks, and the binding is solid. There is a tiny "Brentano's" Bookseller's stamp to the top fore edge corner of the front endpaper.
