Description: antique large oil on canvas painting, 18" by 36", (25" by 43 1/4" in the original gold period frame), unsigned, after the well-known and often copied work "Early Autumn on Esopus Creek" by American artist Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837-1908). That painting was made into a chromolithograph print by Louis Prang in 1866, and the wide subsequent dissemination of the image led to a wide range of artists attempting to copy it. This is one of those works. The painting shows its antique age (circa 1870 to 1895). There is a recent-looking tear at center right as seen. Otherwise it exhibits normal aging of a work from its time----soiling, light craquelure. A small piece of the frame is missing at left, where the loss area was painted with gold paint long ago. The work could be cleaned and restored and thereby would be brought back nearly to its original condition.
