Description: FOR SALE! Women's Black-colored Silk Bodice with High Collar and Long Sleeves Circa 1900 (Late Victorian, Early Edwardian Era) A very attractive late Victorian or early Edwardian women's bodice with a high collar and long sleeves with narrow cuffs. The exterior of the bodice is made from black silk which features a pattern of raised, woven 'dashes' across the entire surface; the bodice is lined with black cotton. The bodice lacks any rigid boning but is heavily tailored to create a tapered waist. The front and back feature pleating, some of which has loosened with age, other portions of which are sewn permanently into place. The back of the bodice has a more defined V-shape to its hemline and hangs slightly lower than the front. The front of the garment has a vertical opening with original hook and eye closures in good condition. A possible example of mourning attire. All measurements are taken with garment laid flat. CONDITION NOTES The bodice is in overall very nice condition, with no noticeable staining or soiling. The most serious problem is overall wrinkling/crumpling and loosening of the decorative pleats. There are a few small holes on the sleeves, around .75-2cm each. This garment has not been washed. Please note that this is an antique item of clothing which displays normal signs of age and wear. Soiling, wrinkling, yellowing, loosened seams, small frays, and other small indications of age may be present. Any significant damage or related issues will be noted above.
