Around 1920 he traveled to England with Bernard Leach and started his activities there as a potter. After returning to Japan, he wanted to live in the countryside and moved to Mashiko in 1924. In 1955, he was designated as the 1st Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Properties (Living National Treasure) and in 1968, he got to be the third potter to be awarded the Order of Culture. The ceramic works exhibited by me are mainly examples of craft works such as Mashiko ware. This work of Hamada Shoji is a popular product. All processes are not produced by Shoji Hamada. This is HAMADA SHOJi directing the design, It is a work made with his son Shinsaku Hamada and his disciples. His disciples include famous writers and all of their works are great.Z In Japan, this is called “kiln MONGAMA or KAMAMONO kiln”. All works are guaranteed authentic items.
