Description: Up for your consideration is the first jersey worn by “Slammin’” Sammy Sosa, all-time home run great! He wore it for the Rangers before being traded to the White Sox in 1989. The jersey was then worn by Fred Manrique, who was also number 17 that year and had the jersey passed to him. For some reason, the previous owner added a Sosa nameplate to the jersey, which is not original. But the jersey itslef is original with the proper 1989, set 1 tagging in the hem, indicating that it was issued to Sosa. It is a size 42, which is what Sosa wore before he bulked up. The number has not been changed. There is some indication of Manrique’s name on the back of the jersey, which had been stripped off.Samuel Peralta Sosa (born November 12, 1968) is a Dominican-American former professional baseball right fielder.
