Description: This listing includes the complete set (books 1-10) of Filipino Heritage, a very rare and highly sought-after set of books on Filipino culture and history. At the time of listing, this appears to be the only complete set of these books for sale on any platform anywhere in the world. There is a rich history to this book set - the publisher of the media outlet responsible for its publication was imprisoned and the release of the book set in the Philippines was actively suppressed, although the advisory board was made up of nationally-recognized experts in the Philippines in the areas of history, anthropology, culture, and the arts. This happened in part because the editor-in-chief had been critical of then-president/dictator Ferdinand Marcos, partly because of a refusal to credit Ferdinand Marcos as the author, and partly because the advisory board did not accept the Marcos administration's wish to praise the dictator in the creation of this work. You may find an interesting history of this book set here: http://alfredo-roces.blogspot.com/2009/11/filipino-heritage.html. The creation of these books required years of effort, a large panel of experts, and significant financing. I have been watching retail and auction sales of this book set for about the last 10 years (I own one other set and have tried unsuccessfully to purchase more, both in the US and while visiting the Philippines), and this book set has seen strong growth in demand and value over the past decade. These books have always been rare, but their desirability has only increased with time and it is even harder to obtain them now than it was 10 years ago. There is minor water damage to a few dust jackets (see photos). See detailed notes on condition below. Vol. 1 The Stone Age in the Philippines: The Search For Early Man. Vol. 2 The Metal Age in the Philippines: The Foundations of the Society. Vol. 3 The Age of Trade and Contacts: Visitors from Across Many Seas. Vol. 4 The Spanish Colonial Period (16th Century): The Day of the Conquistador. Vol. 5 The Spanish Colonial Period (17th/18th Centuries): Bajo las Campanas (under the Church Bells). Vol. 6 The Spanish Colonial Period (18th/19th centuries): Roots of National Identity. Vol. 7 The Spanish colonial period (Late 19th Century): The Awakening. Vol. 8 The Period of Armed Struggle (1896-1900): Night of Heroes. Vol. 9 The American Colonial Period (1900-1941): Under The School Bell.Vol. 10 Birth of a Nation (1941-1946): War Baby. Notes on individual volumes:Spines are good except on volume 3, which has partially come loose from the binding (but no individual pages are loose in this volume). These books originated in Manila, and have been in a tropical climate for 40+ years. Accordingly, there is some foxing from high humidity, which is mainly seen on the first and last few pages of the books.Volume 8 was formerly in a private library and was published in 1978, one year after the rest of the books in this set. Volume 1 is a different printing from the others. This is only noticeabe from the absence of the volume number on the spine.
