Description: CIVIL WAR ERA 1/9 PLATE AMBROTYPE - HANDSOME GENT - BY ISAAC DUPREE - CAMP ABRAHAM LINCOLN In my dozen years of collecting 19th Century photography, this is the first example I have ever encountered with a card on the backside of an ambrotype containing Isaac H. Dupree's advertisement located at Camp Abraham Lincoln. Dupree was first a daguerreotypist and supplier of daguerreotype supplies in Augusta, Bath, Bangor and Portland, Maine. He worked in Portland, Maine from 1855 through 1870 where his Camp Abraham Lincoln studio was located. In this fine portrait of a handsome gentleman, you can see Dupree's expertise in the art of photography based on the sheer sharpness and overall exposure. The image is razor sharp portrait with hand tinting applied to the gentleman's face. The ninth plate ambrotype is held in a full case. Good luck to my winner. The ninth plate ambrotype has excellent contrast, tonal range and superb sharpness. A nice hint of warm toned color was applied to his face and gold accents added to his jewelry.
