Lewis’ agonizing reflections on coping, or attempting to cope, with the death of his wife, Joy Davidman, from cancer in 1960. First published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk because Lewis wished to avoid the connection. This first edition is the only impression which omitted the author’s real name. Lewis used the pen-name N.W. Clerk; “N.W.” stands for “Nat Whilk,” which in Old English means “Not Known.” “Clerk,” because he was a clerk of Oxenforde. 60 pages, with rarely found dust jacket; now in archival protective sleeve.
