Description: This collection of five 19th-century apothecary jars is a stunning display of historical charm and craftsmanship. Each jar is hand-blown from glass, making them unique in their slight variations in height and form, a hallmark of handmade items from the era. They stand approximately 12.5 inches tall and measure around 4.25 inches in both width and depth. The original contents are still intact, further preserving their authenticity and historical value. The jars feature hand-painted labels with Latin names framed in gold oval borders, each carefully inscribed with the names of the substances they once held. From left to right, they are labeled: GRETA. PRAEC. – likely a form of precipitated chalk, commonly used in medicinal or cosmetic preparations. P. CARBO. LIG. – powdered charcoal, possibly used for medicinal purposes such as digestive health. MAGN. CALC. – Magnesium carbonate, often used as an antacid or drying agent. CUBEBA. – Cubeb, a type of pepper used for its therapeutic properties, particularly in respiratory and urinary conditions. P. CAPSICI. – Powdered Capsicum (Cayenne pepper), known for its stimulating and warming effects in traditional medicine. The glass stoppers on top are original, adding to the charm and integrity of the set. The jars' contents, still visible inside, vary in color and texture, creating a visually interesting display. The P. CARBO. LIG. bottle has some damage to the top rim and stopper. There is some damage/loses to the labels. Please review photos for further condition assessment. This collection is perfect for anyone interested in vintage pharmaceutical history or looking for a unique decorative piece for their home. The jars' aged patina and handmade nature make them a truly special find. WARNING: The contents in these jars are over 100 years old and are not intended for consumption or use. Display only. These will be carefully packed, double boxed and wrapped for transit. We will try to find a good express shipment option to reduce transit/handling time.
