Description: A Scarce copy of Churches of Sussex, With Historical and Archaeological Descriptions by Mark Antony Lower with Etchings by R. H. Nibbs, published in 1872. In Good+ condition brown cloth with leather to spine and corners. Top page edges are gilt, gilt titles to spine. Cloth shows soiling, leather rubbed and worn at corners and extremities, spine ends somewhat frayed. Leather chipped at bottom of spine obscuring most of the date. Front lower joint is splitting about 3-4 inches, inner hinges are cracked but covers remain firmly attached. Scattered foxing, mostly light but heavier at front and rear endpapers. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and title page in red and black. Includes all 72 of the wonderful etchings by Nibbs. Discusses the history and architecture of these churches, some dating back to Saxon and Norman times. A scarce volume. 9 x 11 inches. Not paginated, but app. 200 pages.
