Description: ✯ THE BLUES BROTHERS ✯ ORIGINAL PROP WINDOW CARD MOVIE POSTER 1980 If you would like to see a larger photo please message us through eBay. All photos shown are of the actual poster you are bidding on. If it has any minor defects like pin holes, creases, etc. and they are not mentioned above, they should be visible in the high resolution photo. Please examine it closely or if you would like a more detailed condition report please contact us. WE DO NOT SELL REPRODUCTIONS OF ANY KIND. NO FAKES, NO REPRINTS. Perfect for a high end home theater. Highly sought after by movie poster collectors and aficionados. From the CineMasterpieces archive. This is a genuine 14" x 22" ORIGINAL PROP WINDOW CARD MOVIE POSTER printed in 1980 for use in the motion picture "The Blues Brothers". This poster is NOT framed. Originally obtained from a Chicago printer who was friends with the owners of Tribune Showprint. This is not a reproduction. We have handled a few of these over the years. We have spoken directly with Tribune Showprint (the original printer of these back in 1980). We know what the reproductions look and feel like. This is not one of them. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE One of the holy grails of poster collecting is this prop poster from the movie "The Blues Brothers" printed by TRIBUNE SHOWPRINT INC., EARL PARK, IND. USA. Only 100 were ordered for the film. It is believed that they were printed on a Babcock Press with wooden type. These are extremely rare as not many survived filming. As can be seen in screen shots from the movie, each one is slightly different. The red, yellow, and blue inks melt together in a Rainbow background, but never in exactly the same place. For example, in the poster John Candy is holding, if you look closely at the text "THE BLUES BROTHERS BAND" you can see that the background is entirely blue behind the text. If you look at the one Ray Charles hung (upside down!), you can see that the background behind the text is a mix of yellow and blue. Why would they be different like this? These were made one at a time similar to a silk screen method. The three inks red, yellow, and blue were possibly on the screen at the same time as they were pushed back and forth with the squeegee through the screen on to the posters. Printed on cardboard card stock. In the Aretha Franklin shots you can see the back is a typical cardboard color light grayish brown. Tribune Showprint is still in business and has reproduced this poster several times over the last 30+ years. These reprints have slightly different colors and are on a slightly different kind of card stock paper than the original. In 2011 a representative from the company informed us that they estimate they have made more than 500 of these reprints over the years. There have also been countless other repros made by other companies, but they are usually on paper and not on cardboard stock like the ones made by Tribune Showprint. These can be very difficult to find in any condition! A long time can go by without one of these coming up for sale. You will have trouble finding a nicer one. CONDITION/GRADE: C8 EXCELLENT Well preserved. No tears, no tape, no pin holes. Black ink smudges on the bottom are residual ink from when it was originally printed. On the reverse you can see traces of blue and red ink on the top and bottom that was transferred from the window card it sat on top of while it was still wet right after it was printed. If a vintage poster is in terrific unrestored condition like this one (EX C8 or better), many experienced collectors will place a premium on it (when compared to a linen backed/restored one). Most experienced collectors prefer unrestored items to restored ones because they believe they will appreciate more in value. When buying collectibles it is always wise to buy "the best of the best" as they stand a greater chance of appreciation. This poster is considered to be within that class and is definitely INVESTMENT QUALITY. This is NOT a reprint or reproduction poster! We are absolutely certain it is authentic.Buy with confidence. We have been on eBay since 1998. SHIPPING We will combine shipping for multiple wins/purchases at no extra charge. If your items can be shipped together in the same package we will ship them together at no extra charge. Please see the link above provided by eBay for the exact shipping cost. We offer either USPS Express or Priority Mail Shipping. We will NOT ship by Airmail. We highly recommend USPS Express Mail for orders outside the U.S.A. We will NOT ship by cheaper U.S. Airmail First Class International with no insurance. Packages shipped this way can easily get lost and/or sometimes take several weeks to arrive. There are NO TRACKING NUMBERS when Airmail is used and there is no way of knowing where the package is or if it is even delivered. You may be willing to take the risk to save a few dollars, but we are not. We strive to provide excellent service and we just can't do that if we use an unreliable delivery method like Airmail. Please do not fault us for not offering this cheaper unacceptable shipping option. We use super strong hi-quality packaging materials including thick cardboard, masonite, and costly pvc plastic tubes. All posters are shipped fully insured and guaranteed to arrive safely. Please read all of the information below before bidding/purchasing. Please be advised that over 95% of all Original Movie Posters printed before the mid 1980's were issued FOLDED. This is NOT considered a defect. They were shipped to theaters this way. Vintage rolled posters do exist, however they are extremely rare. We can have any folded poster Linen Backed which will make the fold lines virtually disappear. Also please note that most movie posters were actually used at the theater, and some will contain slight imperfections such as: writing on the back, pin holes, fold wear, small tears, etc. These are all very common and to be expected, but if they bother you, all these minor flaws can be remedied in the linen backing process. Linen Backing preserves and can actually increase the value of a poster. For the most part, any flaws will be fixed and the poster will appear to be in Near Mint condition. For more information about our Linen Backing service please contact us. We do not always measure all of our posters exactly. Unless otherwise specified, poster measurements quoted above are approximate to the nearest inch. For example, if we say a one sheet poster is 27" x 41" its precise measurements may be closer to 26 3/4" x 40 7/8" (or something similar). This slight variance is quite common for all original movie posters. BEWARE OF "FAKE" MOVIE POSTERS! There are fakes, bootlegs, reprints, and reproductions of almost every popular movie poster. WE DO NOT SELL THESE AS ORIGINALS LIKE OTHERS DO! There are many unscrupulous dealers who successfully pass off these posters as originals. They have been doing it for years! These fakes are almost indistinguishable from originals, only experts can tell. Many who buy them don't know they have been taken. They only discover years later when they sell them that they are worthless. Most are from popular movies from the 70's and 80’s, but there are also really old ones and relatively new ones as well. They usually appear in insert size 14" x 36" and one sheet size 27" x 41". Again, all we can say is BEWARE! For more information please see our EBAY GUIDES link above. We grade our posters according to the Iguide Universal 10-Point Movie Poster Grading Scale. C10 Mint - Investment quality. No perceptible flaws of any kind. C9 Near Mint - Investment quality. Minor flaw on an otherwise unused poster. C8 Excellent - Investment quality. A few minor defects. C7 Very Good to Excellent - Fine condition. Still a very nicely preserved item. C6 Very Good - The typical used poster in average condition. C5 Good to Very Good - A heavily-worn item. C4 Good - Below average but still suitable for display. C3 Fair - Heavily worn, but yet still complete. C2 Poor to Fair - An extremely worn, possibly even incomplete item. C1 Poor - The lowest grade, representing items in the lowest possible condition. For details on this grading system please see our Ebay Guide GRADING / CONDITION. Some of our posters are "between grades". For example, a C8-C9 poster will contain all the qualities/characteristics of a Near Mint C9 except for one or two very minor flaws that we believe prevent it from being a true C9. WE WILL COMBINE SHIPPING AT NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES It is usually possible to ship folded and rolled posters together in one package by rolling the folded ones and shipping them all in one tube. Sometimes it isn't possible to do this. Sometimes we can't roll a folded poster. If this is the case then we must split your wins/purchases into two separate packages and you will be charged for a second shipment. All wins/purchases must be paid for within 7 days. If you would like us to wait for you to accumulate several posters and have them shipped all together so you can save on shipping, please send us a separate email containing your name, your eBay id, and eBay listing number(s) and we will hold your items until you tell us to ship them. Please note that if we hold your items for longer than 30 days they will NOT BE RETURNABLE. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS IN THIS SITUATION. OUR RETURN POLICY (see below) WILL NOT APPLY. We offer either USPS Express or Priority Mail Shipping. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND USPS EXPRESS MAIL FOR SHIPMENTS OUTSIDE THE U.S.A. WE TAKE EXTRA SPECIAL CARE WHEN WE PACKAGE YOUR ITEMS Folded posters are placed in a plastic bag or envelope and in between STRONG pieces of cardboard and taped together before being placed in the package. Rolled posters are put into a plastic sleeve and then placed in a HEAVY-DUTY TOUGH 3” or 4" diameter thick walled PVC tube. We roll the poster into a smaller diameter than the tube. This is VERY IMPORTANT because it gives the edges strength and helps to prevent them from getting wrinkled. We add soft cushioning material (also very important!) on the ends to prevent them from getting damaged. We stamp “FRAGILE: DO NOT BEND” on the outside of the package. EUROPEAN CUSTOMERS PLEASE READ To protect ourselves, we insure expensive items for the FULL AMOUNT. Import Duties for the European Union apply to any item bought overseas whether or not we list it as a gift on the shipping manifest. In the U.K. for example, they apply to any gift over £35 and to any item that is not a gift over £18. These costs can be quite substantial and include a Value added Tax and a Parcel Force Clearance Fee. These combined charges can add up to 25% or more to your final cost. For other European countries the charges will differ. Please check with your postal system on their procedure for packages from overseas so you are not unpleasantly surprised. NON U.S. CUSTOMERS WE WILL NO LONGER SHIP FIRST CLASS INTERNATIONAL AIRMAIL WITHOUT INSURANCE Our experience has shown that packages shipped this way can easily get lost and/or sometimes take several weeks to arrive.
