Item specifics are: Film 1: Three to Get Ready: A Progress Report from BART (1967) COLOR Runtime 13 Minutes Shows stages in the construction of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit system. Never has so much cutting, digging, blasting and concrete-laying been so beautifully depicted in a film. Interesting shots of BART's 800-ton, double-barrelled tubes being laid into SF bay, a large tower being demolished, old ferry piers being pulled up, and massive tunnel rings being fabricated in a mill. The dramatic high moment of this flick occurs when two ends of the Berkeley Hills tunnel are joined, causing the two tunnel crews to ceremonially change places. One can only imagine that this 1967 film was commissioned to ally all the grousing caused by the ongoing construction work, but as the narrator notes, "it's only temporary". Release Date: 1967 Entered the Public Domain: 1996 Film 2: Along the Way (1968) COLOR Runtime 12 Minutes Depicts actual construction progress throughout the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit System during 1967-68, emphasizing the original and continuing aims of the district--to provide safe, fast, economical and comfortable mass transit, thereby eliminating traffic congestion and preserving the beauty and character of the area. Release Date: 1968 Entered the Public Domain: 1997 Film 3: Moving Along (1968) COLOR Runtime 10 Minutes Great segment of film (has no beginning or end credits) about the construction of the BART line. The unveilling of the car is shown, as well as dignitaries with disembodied voices crowing about how great it is. From there, we're shown the progress of construction of the many different aspects of the system. Quite interesting really, and moves along at a good pace. Release Date: 1968 Entered the Public Domain: 1997 I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
