Description: This sculpture of Ramesses III as High Priest was created by Artisan Guild International who although not still in business are world renown for their museum quality pieces. AGI often used a cultured marble for it's sculptures which is probably the material used for this piece with intricate hand details. The headdress, kilt, and long standard with the ram's head are beautifully accented with gold leaf. Ancient Egyptian priest's clothing was often made from leopard skin. On this piece the leopard's head adorns Ramesses' kilt. The ram's head on the standard was associated with the God Amun-Re. There is also an insignia/distinguishing mark perhaps of power on Ramesses' shoulder. A Pharaoh was considered to be the 'Lord of the Two Lands' and 'High Priest of Every Temple. An image or statue of the Pharaoh"s likeness when placed into a temple also meant that the Pharaoh's very presence was also magically there. The original statue made from gray granite is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and dates from 1186-1155 BC. It was found in the temple of Amun-Re, Karnak. This beautiful AGI replica of the museum piece measures just over 12.5 inches in height. The base is 3 inches wide and 5 inches deep. It weighs approximately 7 pounds.
