Description: Staffordshire Russet Spaniel Dog This little fellow exudes a tremendous amount of charm. Exquisitely painted and modeled, great nose paint. Mid to late 19th Century. Scarce size. Measures approx. 7.5"H X 5.5" W. Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Book 2, p. 174 Condition: Accentuated craze lines, paint loss, minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
