However, during the excavations on the eastern slope of the settlement Afrasiab, the remains of the mausoleums of the XI-XII centuries were discovered. In 2001, the Shakhi-Zinda mausoleum ensemble, along with other ancient buildings of Samarkand, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
