The European porcelain tea set consists of a teapot, tray, creamer & lidded sugar and two cups and saucers. Each item features an exquisite all round highly detailed gold decoration with floral medallions. Each has a central portrait depicting charming, allegorical scenes in the style of 18th century artist Angela Kauffman. Note: All 'beehive' marks are extremely ambiguous and problematic because over the years many European porcelain manufacturers 'borrowed' it or invented their own variation, thus making identification very difficult. In case of the beehive used by Erdmann Schlegelmilch though it is easily identifiable as it included a dot. This mark was frequently used on porcelain decorated with mythical, classical or allegorical scenes with borders typically held in deep wine, dark green or cobalt blue. This 'beehive' mark was used from 1891-1896. The Erdmann Schlegelmilch facility ceased continuous production between 1933 and 1935, but some limited attempts were made to continue production prior to the final closing in 1937. Just to confirm, all pieces have the same beehive stamp except for the two saucers. As the years pass, these lovely china items become more precious... pieces are damaged, lost or collections are broken up. The good news for collectors is that quality pieces should not only hold their value but increase over time. Condition: Tea set in overall very good vintage condition commensurate for age. Lovely colour and pattern, no chips or crazing. Occasional spot/teeny wear to to pattern and gilding, nothing to spoil the set though. Sugar bowl has a small discoloured area on the rim not seen when lid is placed on. It has an expert repair to one handle so someone obviously loved this set... see enlarged photo. The teapot has a very small vertical line to the green tree above the figures heads, looks like a hairline but is not, just a minor imperfection. Overall a lovely set and ready for someone to enjoy...
