Description: This is an amazing piece of history along with being a very unique décor/storage piece. It is a solid rectangular hard case made of "hard board" or very thick and stiffened cardboard with reinforced edges. But what takes it to the next level and gives you a bit of it's history is the luggage tags. I went down quite a rabbit hole researching the tags and have started to piece together a bit of this trunk's travels. The 9th photo is a First Class Baggage ticket from the Italian passenger liner Lloyd Sabaudo which was in operation from 1907 to a merger in 1932. I then was able to piece together the missing text from photo 10 to determine that this was the ship Conte Rosso traveled on, which is was the first passenger liner built after WWI by Lloyd Sabaudo Liner. This ship (last photo) was used for passengers from 1921 to 1930 when it was changed over to a troop transport for the skirmishes in Europe/Africa pre WWII. It then was sunk in 1941 by a British submarine in WWII. I then pieced together a "destination" sticker photo 11, that seemed to indicate it was out of New York and included what might be "Milan" and Lloyd Sabaudo lines had routes from New York to Italy. There are several hotel luggage stickers from Italy on it to further substantiate this view. All of this makes me believe that someone with an initial P took a long trip to Italy from New York sometime between 1921 to 1930 when that ship was carrying passengers. This individual also visited the Mesa Verde National Park in 1930 - photo 12. Details: 15" X 24" X 10" and weighs 13 lbs and 9 oz. There are 8 mostly intact luggage tags and 7 with significant damage. The leather handle could be replaced or left as is for more authenticity.
