Probably a period mold for making Grand Tour type plaster casts or Tassies, typically of classical Greek or Roman carved gems. Most unusual and lovely quality!CONDITION: All original and very, very good. Slight signs of wear / tarnish commensurate with age and use. DEFECTS: None. 'Chip' to lower edge is also engraved work, a feature of the original gem? DATE/MARKS: 18th/early 19th century. Not marked. DIMENSIONS: 37.7 x 28.8 mm, 2.7 mm thick (1 inch = 25.4 mm).
