Description: This card is one of several that came from an estate. It is a beautiful, hand painted on celluloid with dainty calligraphy letters. I am not sure how it was made. It is definitely hand painted. The card is matte on the front, and shiny on the back. The colors are slightly darkened with age, especially the gold chalice. The piece has no damage. It appears unused. It is 4.3/4" tall and about 2 1/2" wide. I have other celluloid cards, so take a peek. This one isn't dated, but one of the others is dated 1903. Holy cards have been around since at least the 15th century. As the years have gone on, the cards became more elaborate. The Nuns and Friars in the monasteries often created hand made holy cards and scapulars as special "blessings" for special events and for patron Saints. I love the celluloid and paper lace cards. I have a nice collection, that I am selling. I have quite a few listed, and have more to go, so check back
