Description: Presented is a wonderful quality English sterling silver platter or serving tray made by Richard Sibley. The oval tray has a handsome gadrooned border. It has never been monogrammed or engraved. The platter is very well made and has tremendous weight. The underside of the piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for London, the date letter ‘r’ for 1832, the duty mark of King William IV’s head, and a maker’s mark of RS for Richard Sibley. The underside is also stamped Makepeace and London, probably for the retailer. The condition is excellent. The bottom of the platter has some faint surface scratches and knife marks, but nothing too serious. There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The platter measures 11 1/4 inches by 15 3/4 inches. The flat useable surface of the tray is approximately 7 1/4 inches by 11 inches. The weight is 1310 grams or 45.9 ounces.
