31 .5 X 17.75 ARTIST EMBELLISHED "TOURNEE DU CHAT NOIR" POSTER ON WOOD~FREE SHIP

Description: This listing is for (1) Artist embellished poster on wood which is a reproduction of the famous "Tournee du Chat Noir de Rodolphe Salis" poster. The poster is affixed to a very heavy, nicely finished substantial piece of wood and then the poster was painted and hand embellished by an artist. Because of how this was done, you can see the brush strokes of the reproducing artist (look at the cat) and it gives a nice 3 dimensional effect to it, rather than a 2 dimensional effect of a plain poster. The wood also has some crevices and intentional dings to it and the painting follows along those same depressions, making it look very realistic. The artist even emulated the "foxing" spots you would see on an old print which I found very realistic and interesting. The detailing is very professionally done. The wood piece is 31 1/2" High X 17 3/4" Wide X 3/4" deep. It is a very "substantial" looking piece and weighs 9 pounds 3 ounces, unpackaged. It was made by The Bramble Corporation" which is known for their realistic painted reproductions. I purchased it in 2010 at Furnitureland South when we first moved to NC. Unfortunately I bought it without first measuring my wall space and it was too big for the space I intended. As a result, this poor cat has spent its life in the attic. The good news is that it is in excellent unused condition! I apologize in advance for the high cost of shipping but this is very heavy and will require padding for safe travels. If you have shipped anything lately, you will understand that the days of inexpensive shipping are over. Even with the cost of shipping included, this piece is MUCH less than you would pay for a similarly sized piece of artwork and a whole lot less than its original purchase price. As we are preparing to do a major downsizing to a much smaller home, I need to find a "new home" for this piece. It truly is a lovely piece, but I have to significantly pare down my possessions, so I am offering it for sale. If you don't know the history of this famous piece, Rodolphe Salis established the Chat Noir ("The Black Cat") as an artistic cabernet in Montmartre in 1881. It immediately gained in popularity among artists and writers and in 1892 he decided to take his company of performers on tour during the summer months--hence this was a poster that advertised "coming attractions" of the Black Cat theatre at the various road show venues. I have taken several pictures of the piece on both sides and divided the front into quadrants so you can enlarge and see the piece in detail. I have also shown several pictures where you will be able to see the artist's brushstrokes and how the painting "dips in" to follow the depressions in the wood, making it more realistic. I think it is quite well done and has a "substantial" feel to it. There is a wired picture hanging wire on the back with 2 very solid hangers and the wire is plastic coated so it will not scratch your wall. There is also a hanging depression in the top center back of the wood so you could hang it flush if you didn't want to use the wire hangers.
