Description: Shlomo Alter was born in Romania in 1936 to a family of restaurateurs. He was naturally gifted from an early age and he showed a precocious ability to draw. He came to Israel in 1948 and during high school he started to study painting under the painter Aaron Avni. His work is typified by a soft impressionist palette and a whimsical and naïve style. In his paintings, he will often paint beyond the canvas, onto the surface of the frame. He also utilizes the medium of original serigraphy to capture the subtle color variations and delicate drawing characteristics found in his work.
