Tobias Clavadatscher is Mr. Music to the citizens of Sauk county. Clavadatscher, 78, las led community bands in the area for so long that they are known as Toby's bands. He first played with the Black Hawk village band in 1902 and organized a band at Witwen, his home town, in 1910. When his family wouldn't permit him to join a circus band, Clavadatscher became a garage owner, instructor in engine and a lifelong musician. Here he is shown working with the band at Witwen-his sixth. He has named the group the Sauk Prairie Community band for Sauk City and Prairie du Sac, communities which provide instruments and a place for rehersals, but most persons in the neighboring area will continue to call it Toby's band.
