Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1918 "GERMAN EMPIRE" World War I Ends "20 MARKS" Note "OVERSIZE" HOLDER INCLUDED Description This is a large, oversize, veteran, but scarce and historic relic from the “German Empire” of the infamous Kaiser Wilhelm II of World War I. It is a "Darlehenskassenschein" or Credit Banknote, for “Zwanzig” or 20 Marks, dated February 20, 1918. The horror that was World War I was finally coming to an end. World War I began July 28, 1914 and would not end until November 11, 1918. By the time it ended 15 million people had died. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany is generally credited with making the fatal decisions that started it. In 1918: On March 3 the Communist Government that emerged from the “Russian Revolution” of 1917 signed the “Treaty of Brest-Litovsk” taking Russia out of the war and freeing 50 German Divisions to transfer to the “Western Front”. This allowed Germany to begin its last-ditch offensive in the west. It failed, and by July the Allied Powers, now including the United States, launched the counter offensive that would end the war. On November 11, Germany signed the “Armistice” ending World War I. Size: 140 x 90 Millimeters or 5.51 x 3.54 Inches. Oversize holder necessary and INCLUDED. "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (General Issues 1368-1960) by Albert Pick. #57. Face: Berlin, February 20, 1918. • Dark brown on carmine underprint. • Minerva and Mercury. Back: A • 6580772 • Man in armor and woman holding grain and a palm frond. The Note: A fairly well-preserved World War I veteran, it has a single small edge tear on the side centerfold.
