Description: “Sanctuary” is an early work by Edith Wharton that explores issues of parenting, specifically motherhood, and morality. It is illustrated by Walter Appleton Clark, and the illustrations are complete and intact. Clark was a very talented artist who died young but was known for his work as an illustrator, with works in Scribner’s Magazine and Harper’s. All the illustrations are intact as is the text. The book was previously from the Booklovers’ Library of Seymour Eaton in Philadelphia, a subscription library catering to the newest in literary creations. There is a bookplate inside the front but otherwise, no library cards or markings.
